==Education and early career==
John Renwick McAslan was educated at Dunoon Grammar School, Dollar Academy and Edinburgh University, Scotland, obtaining a MA in Architecture along with the Diploma year prize in 1978.〔http://www.ed.ac.uk/alumni/services/news/news/johnmcaslan〕 He trained in Boston USA with Cambridge Seven Associates before joining Richard Rogers and Partners in 1980. He is Executive Chairman of John McAslan + Partners and is active in all of the practice's work.
John McAslan + Partners was named World Architect of the Year in 2009. The practice's work has been extensively exhibited and has received in excess of 75 international design awards, including 15 RIBA national and international awards. John has taught and lectured widely and is a Trustee of numerous cultural bodies.〔http://www.tate.org.uk/download/file/fid/4783〕
John McAslan’s work has been widely published internationally in professional journals, newspapers and in the form of monographs, the most recent of which is ''Transforming King's Cross'', a detailed account of the practice's acclaimed and award-winning redevelopment of the station, and ''Discovering King's Cross'', both published in 2012.
In 1997 John established the John McAslan Family Trust, which, as a registered charity, provides support for arts and educational projects both in the UK and overseas.〔 In 2009 the Trust acquired the Burgh Hall, Dunoon. The intention is to create a cross-disciplinary arts venue and multi-purpose community centre, offering audiences diverse cultural opportunities.
In the New Year Honours 2012 McAslan was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire "for services to architecture" and was also appointed Honorary consul of The Republic of Haiti (to the Court of St James's) in the United Kingdom.
